BETWEEN DREAMS AND REALITY
Since my first exhibition, 'Images of War, and wishful thinking‘, held at the Islington Art Factory London in the 1980’s, my work has explored the space between poetic lyricism, and hard reality.
The more romantic paintings are taken from memories experiences, and my imagination. The disturbing images of conflict are burned into my mind from social media, newspaper reports, and TV. Facebook Trilogy and Lethal Difference are two such works.
As with the varied subject matter, the style of painting in each work responds to the needs of the image so it is also wide ranging. Horizons seem to feature more and more in my later paintings. The result perhaps, of being lucky enough to live up on the moors in West Cornwall with unobstructed views all around me.
This gives me the tranquility I need to function.
